Handheld social database mini-units have been introduced by social development authority. When those working on the units enter data, then such information through the use of Geographic Information are automatically transferred to the government’s main social database system. The tiny units are for social researchers who visit applicants for social services at homes and conduct surveys and studies.

“The mobile units were introduced for faster and more accurate data entry as our specialists could easily access the main system while dealing with applicants or individuals covered in surveys,” the Minister of Social Development, Dr Fatima Al Baloushi, told the press last week. “We are a service-provider organisation and our work deal directly with people at their residents, so those units are to facilitate approval of social services, mainly financial assistance for needy.”

The Ministry of Social Development offers monthly financial assistances to needy families, disabled and elderly as well as offer training to make them financially independent. The Ministry is also responsible of reviewing all social aspects in Bahrain.

The Minister highlighted that work is going on to introduce those units in all the Ministry’s operations. “This is a pioneer project in the Middle East as we are proud to be the first regional country to introduce such advanced system.

The handheld units similar to computer have screens, memory capacities and processors. It has various electronic application forms for the specialist to fill and then send to the main system. The units are equipped with facilities that allow users to correct, add and delete data in convenient and fast manners.
